We watched multiple very large wet slabs and glide avalanches release on Penguin Ridge above Girdwood this afternoon between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. At least one of the avalanches hit the Beaver Pond trail, taking out a 20 foot section of trail as the wet debris plowed through. A very large natural wet slab avalanche occurred in the evening of April 21st. This was on the lower easterly face of Raggedtop in the Girdwood Valley. Photos below taken by two different people from the Crow Creek road.  [ Read More ]
