We experienced widespread collapsing on low angled slopes on the WSW aspect of Marmot Peak. It
seemed that the accumulated snow from the last 2 storms collapsed on a faceted base. You could feel the
layer of facets or depth hoar with a pole probe prior to the collapse. Once collapsed, you could no longer
feel that weak faceted layer near the ground. I know you guys experience this stuff all the time, but It was
pretty cool! Needless to say, we skied conservatively.
