Route & General Observations

Wrong mountain. North of Carter lake, when looking north from the lake up slope in the ridge of trees. Hiked up from Carter ptarmigan hunting (none to be had), stayed toward the east through the obvious path avoiding the steeper area. Reached the ridge put on snow shoes and hiked around the ridge, still no birds. I went around a band of trees at this point. I was going to hike to where I came up but decided to take off my snow shoes. I took both snow shoes off and heard a very quit whoomph. About 45′ away on the steeper slope an avalanche occurred.
