We drove through Portage and into Whittier yesterday and saw many naturally occurring wet loose avalanches. Some of these ran quite far. Also, we had a few photos passed to us by former forecaster Graham Predeger who happened to be on the water in Shotgun Cove. A few larger slabs were triggered by wet loose sluffs and one looks to have been triggered by a snowmachiner. These occurred today, Saturday, April 15, 2023.
These areas saw 1-2′ of new snow on Friday (4.14). The sunshine today warmed the new snow to the point it just started sluffing off the mountainsides around noon to 5pm, and even later.
