We received these photos and details from a snowmachiner that triggered an avalanche near Whittier today. He was able to ride off the slab and was not caught or carried. The avalanche failed on a recently wind-loaded slope and was 2 inches to 3′ deep. It did not appear to involve any deeper weak layers. Thank you to the rider for sharing this info!

The wind slab varied from 2 inches to 3 feet thick. The rider was able to ride off to the side of the slab as it started moving and was not caught or carried.
