Route & General Observations

Came up the uptrack, fairly mellow. Seattle Ridge was mostly wind blown. Dropped into warm up bowl on the normal uptrack, snow seemed well plastered to the slope. No signs of movement.

Forecaster Comments

A very big thank you to the individual for sharing their experience. We are so thankful everyone was ok. The 'pickup' zone referred to is at the bottom of the slope where there are some elevated terrain features and a fairly broad area that can appear safe, this is where snowmachines are often used to shuttle boarder/skiers up and down the slope.

Fifth rider on slope, made 2-3 turns and the whole thing went out to my riders right. Slide went all the way to the pickup zone. Ran almost completely through the pickup. Threw one sled 100’ and the other was found by probe 50’ away and 5’ under the snow. The pick up zone is NOT safe!!!!

Events of the day

I pulled my airbag as soon as I saw the next part of the ridge start to slide. I rode out the slide until the snow started to billow in front of me. Once I came to a stop I was buried to my waist and the snow piled up to my chin.
