Route & General Observations

We saw this natural avalanche on Wednesday 3/18/09. The crown
face still looks clean enough that I’m guessing it ripped out
sometime Tuesday 3/17/09. I’m also guessing that this failed on
the “glazed donut” layer, or at least on the old snow/new snow
interface. This is a class 2 avalanche that could
easily bury, injure, or kill a person. This was the biggest and
pretty much the only natural slab we saw from Girdwood to the
Hope Y. I think it is still possible for a person to trigger
something this size. Stay away from convuluted terrain with
gullies and other terrain traps underneath today.
