Route & General Observations

Sunburst parking lot to treeline on either side of Taylor Creek. Objective of the day was looking for the solstice surface hoar.

Low volume loose dry avalanches on the west face of Magnum from skier tracks.

Weather & Snow Characteristics

Weather

Light down valley breeze, cold (-15C), no precipitation.

Snow surface

Surface hoar .5-2cm above 20cm of near-surface facets.

Snowpack

Height of snow ranged from 80-120cm.
Multiple melt-freeze crusts.
Primary layer of concern was facets above and below the crust. Test results include ECTP26, down 21cm above the crust, ECTP25 down 25cm below the crust.
We did not find the solstice surface hoar in any of the pits.
