Avalanche: Other Regions
Location: Trail into Barber Cabin, near Cooper Landing
Spent the night at Barber Cabin, and skied out this morning. In the middle of the night (3am) we heard what I thought was a huge gust of wind. Turns out it was the powder blast from a nearby avalanche. On the ski out we observed two new slides – both on old avalanche paths. There was hardly any snow on the trail, but a lot of snow coming down from higher up.
We did not see the start zone, so information is given for the base of the slide.
Avalanche Details
We only observed the runout zone. Dense snow at the base. Powder blast seen in the trees (see photo). Both of these avalanches had run over the old debris at the base.

Weather
Rain at 500' elevation, and presumably snow much of the day and night before. 40 degrees F.

Virtually no snow in the runout zone. You could see the grass and other vegetation up to about 500 ft above the trail.
