Alaska Pacific University Snow Science class did a quick tour on Tincan uptrack after road obs. Spectacular carnage from the 6″SWE storm cycle in Portage Valley and along Seward Highway Bird to Turnagain Pass.

Observed roof avalanche in action off the Johnson Pass trailhead bathroom.
Also saw some wet loosies on Seattle Ridge side.

Lot of new avalanches from the recent storm cycle. Worth seeing.

Weather

Skies cleared up towards afternoon from overcast to scattered.
No new precipitation.
Temps above freezing the whole tour.
Very light winds at 1800', otherwise calm.

Snow surface

2-8cm of gloppy new snow overnight, with distinct layer of rimed crystals in it.

Snowpack

Oh, it is spring time! Top 60cm of snow was moist and settled in.
Series of CT & ECT tests showed no results. We did not travel to areas with wind slab potential.
Ski quality was surprisingly nice.
