Route: Tincan uptrack to 2300′
Weather: Overcast/obscured trending to broken
Signs of Instability: Collapsing, small cracks, small naturals on southern aspect of Cornice Ridge
Surface conditions: Some wind-loading, medium-density powder
Snowpack observations: Moderate strength (10-20 taps on CTs and ECTs), high energy (sudden
collapses, whoomps, and PST 24/100 and 45/100 (end)), and poor structure (5 of 5 lemons). The problem layer consists of 1-2cm of 2mm facets found on top of the January melt-freeze crust. This layer existed on eastern aspects around 2300′.
