Took advantage of Veteran’s Day to make a couple laps in the Tincan trees. Travel was up to treeline.
No signs of instability. However, the onset of NE winds in the afternoon was beginning to drift snow at the upper elevations. Wind slabs are likely developing and should be watched for in the next day or two.
There are several glide cracks opening up in the 1500 foot elevation band; these are 1-2 feet deep (could catch a ski or board).
Cloudy and obscured skies with roughly an inch of new snow falling throughout the day. NE winds at treeline ~15mph, enough to affect the surface snow. Winds were increasing throughout the day and transporting snow at the higher elevations. Temperatures were in the mid 20's F.
8-10" soft settled powder over a denser base. Skied very nicely in the trees.
Total snow depth was 16-24". Generally right side up: denser snow near the ground, lighter snow at the surface. Above treeline elevations looked to be significantly more wind affected with variable snow depths and surface conditions. We found very good snow stability at treeline at below.
