Toured from Center ridge parking lot up to 2200’ on Tincan, dug a pit and skied down.
30 deg F at the car by 11 am, light snow. Snow intensity picked up as I was skiing down.
Dug the pit on a SE aspect at 2200’. Hs 195 cm. Only dug down 80 cm to crust, tested for hardness and did three CTs (4, 4, 6 down 20 cm on surface hoar (Q2)). As I pulled with the shovel behind the column, it popped another 20 cm down (though CTN) but I couldn’t determine the grain type of this weak layer. When pulling (not much force) the column also slid easily on the crust down 80 cm.
