Alaska Guide Collective’s Rec 2 avalanche course had 3 groups out on Center Ridge and Tincan traveling up to 2,000′ and 2,500′

Weather

Overcast sky. Near Freezing. Light NE winds.

Snow surface

Moist powder. Ski pen: 5cm at 1,000-1,300' and up to 20cm at 1,500-2,000'

Snowpack

Nick’s group: Hard to find new buried surface hoar in hand pits, visible in some but not reactive. 2x ECTX at 2,000’

Joe’s group: Skin track test at top of Hamburger Hill on Tincan had easy shears down 15cm on surface hoar. Everywhere else we didn’t find easy shears on the surface hoar. 6 x ECTX at 1700 on N side of Center Ridge. Shovel tilt Mod at 1700 on N side Center ridge on surface hoar.

Elliot's group: 2500’ S aspect. ECTX x 2. Did not find slab on BSH, but definitely a layer to track with more snow on top of it.
