Red circle on left = very small avalanche triggered by first skier on slope
today at about 10:30 am or so. Red circle on right = avalanche triggered by a
skier at about 1:30 pm.
Regarding the larger event: skier entered top of roll at gap in red circle and
triggered slide on the first turn. Skier continued down slope a half-dozen turn
so so, and then, not seeing the slide alongside (due to face shots), skied into
it. The avalanche caused skier to fall and carried skier for about 10-15
meters. Skier was not buried nor injured.
Bed surface was the ice crust. Couldn’t make it all the way up to the crown
(chickened out), but estimate it was about 30 cm. Measured the slope angle
about half-way up the bed at about 42 degrees. Didn’t examine the sidewalls and
didn’t investigate the smaller slide earlier in the day. No visual or tactile
evidence of wind affect in vicinity of slide (at least to these eyes and skis).
