The avalanches on Tincan 1/2/14 occurred late in the day and were remotely triggered by 2 skiers who said they were going to ski off the ridge to Todd’s and into the basin. They were about 250 to 300′ away when it released and activated 2 more avalanches in the basin.
Hand pits were showing moderate shears of the new snow at the interface with
the old snow. We observed some collapsing on slopes going down the south side
to the top of the alders. People were pounding the kitchen wall without any results on the normal descents.
