Route & General Observations

Went from center ridge up toward the Tincan uptrack.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Moderate snowfall until the afternoon. Calm winds in treeline and below treeline areas. Visibility was obscured for the first part of the day but started to clear around 330pm.

Snow surface

5" of new snow on the lower slopes of Tincan. The melt/rain crust underneath is breakable in some areas but for the most part it was supportable and made for much better skiing. Closer to 3" of new snow at Johnson Pass TH.

Snowpack

Dug a pit at 1600' to check on the snowpack. See photos for overview of snowpack structure. No significant results in stability tests. In some shovel tap tests the new snow was not bonding well to the crust.
