Observation: Turnagain

Sky cover fluctuated throughout the day from obscured and snowing lightly to broken with a bit of sun breaking through.
Rain/snowline was around 300' at 10 am and 500' at 4 pm.
Temperatures were in the low 30°Fs to low 40°s
Winds were easterly and gusty in the morning, eased off in the afternoon

Hot powder! 12-15" of moist new snow.
Wind affected above 2000', scoured in spots back to old wind crusts and some old wind features were still visible.
More moisture content/sticky below 1700' on the descent, noticeable settlement on the way down (snowpack had shrunk almost 6" near road level, 1000').
Surface snow was also sagging in steep spots near 1000' at 3:30 and all the snow had shed from trees

Hand pits along the way all easily failed on new/old interface regardless of surfaces including old wind affected snow, sun crust or small facets.

We dug at 2200' on both a south aspect and a northwest aspect (see profiles and photos). On the south aspect new snow was failing on top of the old sun crust in compression tests, CT11 SC (x2) while on the north the new snow seemed to be sticking to the old wind crust. In addition, on the south aspect there was another sun crust 50 cm down with small facets on top, ECTP21, ECTN24, CT16 SC (x2). On the north aspect there was a layer of buried surface hoar/facets 50 cm down ECTP21, CT21 SC, CT26 SC and a layer of facets 75 cm down, CT28 SC, CT29 SC, ECTX.
