Gusty winds and moderate snowfall
Cracking was just starting to be evident later in the day with more wind loading on small test slopes
Overcast
Snowing S2 (moderate snowfall) 6" of new snow fell during tour
East winds 5-15 mph gusts into the 20s, riming
Temps in the low 30°Fs at the road and mid 20° Fs at our high point around 2300'
Started the tour at 11:00 am with 3-4" of new snow. Ended tour at 4:00 pm with 10-12" of new. On the way down the snow became heavier/stickier around 1400'.
Some wind effect above 2100'. Some spots were loading and getting stiffer as the day progressed
We dug a pit at 2200'. HS: 250 cm, pit depth 100 cm. 10 cm of new snow (@12:30 pm) failed easily at new/old interface with shovel tilt. The 2.9 facet layer was 35 cm down, CT 15, ECTN16 and the 1.28 facet/bsh layer was down 45 cm, CT 25, ECTX.
The new snow was showing signs of not bonding well to the old snow where there was enough wind effect to build a slab
Below 1400' tree bombs were causing very small loose avalanches and roller balls. Easy snowball snow.
