Route & General Observations

Route
Tincan up to Common Bowl ~3,400

Weather
Calm winds
Skies gradually clearing through the afternoon hours, some valley fog
Temps in the high 20sF above treeline
No precip in the afternoon

Obvious Signs Of Instability
Recent Avalanches-NO *
Collapsing-NO
Shooting Cracks-NO

Observed recent glide activity on Eddies S face, likely over 48 hrs old, and 1 release near the headwaters of Lyon creek, perhaps a glide
avalanche, to the ground, W facing around 2,800’ (see photo)
Snapped a photo of some of the glide cracks below Common Bowl/Hippy Bowl, no
recent movement noted.

Surface Obs
“Dust on Crust” from 1,700’ to 2,500’. 5 cm (2”) of new snow on a slowly
hardening crust
5-15cm (2-6”) of new snow above 2,500’
Very low volume sluffing in terrain over 35 degrees
Ski cuts along the ridge produced no results

Snow Below the Surface
The refreezing of wet snow in the mid elevations continues, with warm soft snow
below crusts ranging from 5-10cm in thickness
1 pit on a North facing starting zone showed moderate strength with propagation
potential (see pit diagram and photo). Layer of concern is a hardness change
and not on a persistent grain type. I’d expect this layer to heal relatively
soon but did not trust it today based on these results.
