Route & General Observations

Standard approach to Tincan for 2 laps on the common bowl and 2 laps through the trees.
Very good ski quality in upper elevations.

Weather & Snow Characteristics

Weather

Skies started out broken and trended towards scattered before shifting back and becoming overcast.
Light Easterly winds, picking up to moderate around 2pm, transporting loose snow along CFR.
Intermittent periods of light snow throughout day, becoming consistent S-1 around 2pm.

Snow surface

In general, new snow accumulation increasing and drying out with elevation
~3cm moist new snow at 1400'
~8cm moist new snow at 1700'
Dry new snow found above 2200', variable depth due to wind affect.
Low volume sluffing in steep terrain at upper elevations.

Snowpack

Handpit test on Hamburger hill failed with moderate force 45cm down on wet grains.
Snowpit at 2700', SW aspect, 30* slope:
HS 200cm, Ski/boot pen: 20cm and 40cm, respectively
Layer of Concern (LOC): Buried near surface facets (?, we had trouble identifying this layer), 45 cm down
Shovel shear with moderate force on LOC
CT22 RP on LOC
ECTN21 on LOC
Snow above LOC exhibited low cohesiveness
