Route & General Observations

Skied Tin Can Common today under increasing clouds. Dug a pit on a SW face at
3200′. Total snow depth was 140cm, 35 degree slope. CT17, Q2 failed below the
ice crust at 110cm down. Second CT failed to the ground while isolating the
column. The culprit is a widespread wet-ice layer seen at the ground interface
at mid-elevations. Interesting to see this sliding surface up-close in the
midst of a glide cycle.
Surface conditions proved great skiing below 3400′ on a soft slab. Stiffer wind
slabs encountered on the ridges. No signs of obvious instability encountered
today though Blizzard was setting in as we left.
