Avalanche: Summit

Triggered by third member of party, and crown ran along cornice line of ridge. Broke approx 100yds across/down ridge and slid nearly to tenderfoot creek. Approx 600ft. Appeared to be mostly soft slab, however slid to ground on small “ridge” in slide path.

Party of three toured up standard route up tenderfoot ridge. Aborted plans to tour further up ridge due to increasing winds and active transport of snow/perceived wind loading. Opted for Eastern most/lowest on ridge run into Tenderfoot Creek Drainage. We made a good decision by not touring further up the ridge, but a poor one in testing out a slope that was actively loading. Recent tracks and knowing the area has been skied frequently this season played into decision making, and it was a bad call. Should have skied down ridge. Party rode down one at a time with good visual at all times.

Member of party who triggered the slide saw the fracture and rode to the west, in the opposite direction away from the slide, and wasn’t caught. Members below slide deployed airbags and rode to the east back towards skin track narrowly avoiding slide. Downhill members switch over and communicated with uphill individual via cell phone. Uphill member then crossed debris area back to safe area in view of downhill party. Reunited no injuries.
