Route & General Observations

Normal uptrack. Some localized cracking (8-12”) around skin track in upper 2” of heavy snow that fell this week when temps were warm.

Weather

14F. Very light snow falling with some N wind, gusts were transporting snow above treeline.

Snow surface

2” of new snow on surface felt stiff, wet snow from earlier in the week with higher temps.

Snowpack

Dug a pit at 2050’, W aspect, 28 degree slope, HS 195, dug down 135cm. Shovel shear was easy and broke at 165cm, where snow profile changed from 4f to 1f. CT12 @ 165cm, ECTN11 same layer. Some facets at base of pit that full column from CT pulled off of very easily after test, see photo.

No signs of instability while skiing mellow laps in the W facing trees.
