Observer Comments

Evidence of previous wind transport in the alpine.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Overcast, calm and no precipitation in the am.
Overcast with light snow and light NE winds after 2pm. Minimal snow transport at 2,500 ft.
Temps near freezing at road level and just below freezing at tree line.

Snow surface

Moist, sticky and manky ~1,700' and below.
Moist powder above ~1,700'
Wind effected moist powder ~2,000 - 2,500'.
Ski pen: 10-20cm.

Snowpack

Pit at 2,500 ft. 20 degree slope, WNW aspect: ECTX. BSH noted about 70cm down.
Pit was specifically targeted in a wind loaded slope to see how the new load reacted on BSH layer of concern. This pit showed strong snow but is NOT a good representation of the overall thinner and weaker snow found in the Summit Lake region.
