We toured up the Tenderfoot up track towards the ridge evaluating the impact of the recent snow cycle, melt freeze crust and potential wind effects. Dug in several elevation bands.

Shooting cracks observed at 2500' when wind textured rollover was jumped on.

New snow and settled powder from road to high point, accumulation line sat around 1700'-2100', in which the snowpack doubled.
Above 2500' wind texture (sastrugi), soft protected pockets still existed.
A deteriorating rain runnel and melt-freeze crust just under the new snow from the road to 1800'.
Set out looking to see what the 1.5" of H20 from the last 7 days would do to the Summit area snowpack . Looking to see if a mid snowpack melt freeze, facet interface existed.
Found a weak melt-freeze crust on the ground beneath the new snow from the road to 2500', at upper elevations the melt freeze crust had 2mm facets and deteriorating rain runnels.
Above 2400' we found multiple wind compacted layers throughout the snowpack, one approx. 30" down and one 50" down in deeper snowpacks. When jumped on, the wind textured snow had propagation potential and resulted in shooting cracks.
