Standard uptrack of tenderfoot.
Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
At 1600 feet whole group stepped off skin track in flat area and felt big whumph
Chunk of cornice failed from WNW ridge of butch at 3800 ft, loose avalanche ran about a 1000 ft no slab triggered.
Weather
Mostly Clear, sundog around 3pm, temp in teens
Snow surface
New snow settled 20 cm of dry powder. Slight sun crust on south face. Very thin thermal crust at 2300 to 1800 ft.
Wind effected ridge above tree line.
Snowpack
At 3200 feet just off ridge on south face we found BSH down 25 cm SP.
could feel DH below strong mid pack with probe. HS 150 cm
Decided not to ski south face.
Dug on NW aspect 2300 ft ECTP 20 SC down 36 cm.
