This pit was located on a SW aspect at 2300 feet not far from the
skintrack. The snowpack was fairly shallow at this
location…only 3.5 feet to the ground. We got moderate Q2 and
Q3 shears below the January rain crust about a foot down on well
developed facets (1-2 mm in size). Nothing else failed below
this layer even after pounding on my shovel.
