Natural avalanche was noted yesterday on the southwest face of Sunburst. This
slide was just west of the Nov. 16th slide that was remotely triggered. Wind
loading (minimal) occurred the night of Nov 21 and looks to have been the trigger.
WSW facing
3,500′
~40deg slope
October facets are the suspect weak layer
100-150′ wide 1-2′ deep and running ~800′
Beyond Sunburst toward Pastoral, collapsing is still occurring but not as
widespread as I would have thought. Winds have stripped much of the snow above
4000′. It looks as thought the slab over the October facets is slowly
deteriorating with our cold and clear weather but still is causing problems at
this point.
