We decided not to ski the run directly below us but instead traverse back towards Taylor Pass before dropping in.
My partner skied first. He stopped in a safe spot next to the scoured ridge where he could see the intended ski run all the way to the valley bottom. I skied towards my partner and passed him into the intended line. I made a hard left turn, felt a collapse, and saw the snow fracture at my feet. The crown was about 8 inches deep. I was not caught. Our intended line was skier’s left of the slide but we decided to traverse back to Taylor Pass and ski the skin track out.
