While skinning up Sunburst ridge we triggered a large cornice collapse. The cornice itself triggered a shallow soft/wet slab and entrained wet loose snow along the way to the valley floor. Warm temps helped to make this cornice very unstable. The largest cornice chunk was approx. 20x20'.

Glide avalanche releases on the South side of Tincan ridge (see photos)
We focused on surface conditions today. Wet snow with ski penetration no greater than 6".
Cabin sized cornice chunk which we triggered while travelling up Sunburst ridge. No one was caught or carried and no one was below when it released.
Looking up to the ridge, 2,000' vertical feet above
Wide view of the avalanche. The cornice triggered a shallow wet slab in the upper starting zone and entrained wet loose snow along the way.
Side by side skin track is intersected here by the crack the propagated when the cornice released. Skin track is on the "downhill" side and the snow under our feet did not release.
Glide releases on the South side of Tincan ridge appeared to have occured during the last 24 hours.
Wet loose and glide avalanches on the South side of Tincan Ridge.
