Route & General Observations

Relaying some quick notes passed along from a friend that was digging in the alpine in the Summit area on Friday (12.01.2023). This is the only data point we have from above 3000′ in the Summit zone, and it is the most concerning snowpit we’ve seen so far for that area.

Snowpack

Some snowpack info from a snowpit at 3100':

Poor stability test results (ECTP24), with a high-energy failure on a thin layer of 1mm facets above a melt-freeze crust buried about 2.5 feet deep. This is the highest elevation data point we have for the area, and it is also the most concerning snowpit we've seen around Summit.
