Route & General Observations

Quick tour up Sunburst to around 2,700′.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Lightly snowing, obscured skies, around 30F and calm winds

Snow surface

5" of new settled storm snow. Moist snow above 1,500'. Around 1,000' and at parking lot around 3" of wet new snow.

From the looks of the snow at the Tincan parking lot, it seems Tincan received a couple more inches of snow than Sunburst.

Snowpack

Quick hand pit at our high point around 2,700'. The 5" of storm snow was bonding well with the underlying surfaces, which were anywhere from hard wind affected snow on the ridge to soft older snow off the ridge. We found the Jan 21 buried surface hoar around 14-16" deep and this layer was difficult to shear in hand pits.
