We went to South Fork of Eagle River to monitor trends in the area and ground truth the wind event in the forecast for today.

Observer Comments

We observed the recent avalanches that were mentioned in the 4/13/24 South Fork observation. Some of the natural activity from Friday was already hard to identify because of the recent wind events. We also experienced shooting cracks.

Weather

Mostly clear skies with clouds building throughout the day from the SE, no precipitation, moderate winds from the SE

Snow surface

The brief (but beautiful) period of nice surface conditions has ended. The landscape was severely wind-affected, with bare ground in many places and up to eleven feet of snow in gullies. Snow was firmer along the ridge with patches of sastrugi and a breakable hollow wind layer.
