Route & General Observations

Skied east and north facing aspects of Eldorado Bowl & Skycraper areas. Snow was variable, but mostly skied well with approx 10-30cm ski penetration. Still a shallow snowpack, as all party members hit at least 1 rock. Upper snowpack was a little stiffer than expected; seemed to be wind effected. Ridgelines, ridgetops, and slopes with an south-ish exposure seemed to have more wind effect and a crust in some places. No formal stability tests. Snow was stiff and hollow in some places. Observed 6″ – 2 ‘ shooting cracks, no whumpfing, skier triggered avalanches, or other red flags. Saw over 50 people skiing all aspects in the Independence Bowl area before clouds rolled in around noon.
