Observation: Girdwood
Location: Seward Hwy MP99-Portage Road MP3
Between 12:30pm and 2pm, I saw three avalanches in motion between Milepost 99
Bird Flats and Portage Road Milepost 3. All three avalanches were small with
very little destructive force and they stopped far above the highway elevation,
but it did show that the wind was easily triggering avalanches that ran from
the ridgetops to as far as 80% of the runout zone.
