Observed multiple natural avalanches driving home Sunday.
Forecaster note:
These are some great photos of the natural activity the 1/4-1/5 storm produced. The weak layer was likely old faceted snow surrounding various crusts (Dec drizzle crust most suspect). The slab 2-3′ thick consists of all the Dec/Jan snow. This last storm added 10-12″ (with wind loading) in this zone but it was enough to tip the balance.
