Route & General Observations

Seattle Ridge up-track. Goal was to assess the Repeat Offender slide path start zone surface conditions in anticipation of snowfall.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Moderate snowfall, obscured skies, calm winds. Temperatures in the upper 20's F.

Snow surface

3-4" total of new snow (2-3" by 1pm today over 1" new from yesterday).

Snowpack

See photo below.

Stable snowpack. The Thanksgiving crust is stout, ~1cm thick at 2,400', and sits 8-10" below the surface. Directly above the crust is a 4-6" thick layer of near surface facets (NSF) that vary between 4finger and fist hardness (1mm in size). New snow has just begun to blanket the NSF - the big question is: will we get enough new snow to overload this weak layer/bed surface combo over the next few days?

The surface hoar (formed this weekend on the NSF) was laying down and becoming intermixed between the facets and new fluffy snow.
