Broken skies becoming overcast in the afternoon. Light Easterly winds. Temps up to 48F in parking lot at 1,000' and in the mid 30's on the ridge.
South, East, West crusty surfaces becoming moist or wet (at lower elevations) by 1pm. Northerly aspects soft settled powder becoming moist by 2pm.
Interested in looking at the new/old snow bonding. New snow is 16" of settled powder and is sitting on a thin layer of facets over a stout old wind slab. Facets are rounding and did not react.
Dug one pit near a snowmachine triggered storm slab avalanche from Friday Apr, 5th.
Pit: 2,200', NNE aspect 15 degree slope
ECTX x 2, could not get the new/old interface to fail, even in shear tests.
