A journey to Seattle Ridge weather station to calibrate the wind direction.
Weather:
Mostly sunny with very light and variable winds. Temperatures in the low 30F range. Warm. Clouds stating to build by late in the day to the South.
Signs of instability:
Warm temperatures today but didn’t see any sign of fresh wet loose avalanche activity.
No other signs of instability noted.
Surface conditions:
Spring-like, soft, saturated and melting out. All snow surfaces, including North, had a variable wind/sun/temperature crust that softened with the daytime warmth. This made for a ‘punchy’ feel with the sled as the track fell through. In areas packed down with previous tracks (which are a lot) the snow was mostly supportable for a snowmachine.
*Many bare patches and little snow at the road elevation. However, plenty to take a sled up to the Ridge and have a good time on the other side.
