Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
Collapsing on Seattle ridge (new slab), 1 large collapse ~ 30m radius, and several smaller collapses. This collapsing was of the new wind slabs sitting on a thin crust sitting on facets.
Weather
Cool temps, moderate to strong winds out of the West and South (see VIDEO and photos), mostly sunny with increasing clouds late in the day. Occasional flurries after 5pm-no accumulation.
Snow surface
2,000-3,000’: 2-6” new snow, pockets of wind slab up to 8” thick - non reactive
1,000-2,000’: thin crust on the ground (thin overall coverage)
Snowpack
Hand shears and pits between 2,300' and 3,200' showed slabs scattered about in pockets and generally non reactive. We found this variable pattern on East and North aspects.
