Route & General Observations

Repeat Offender is the avalanche path above the snowmachine up-
track that killed 6 people in 1999. We dug a pit at about 2200
feet. We found the January facets buried about 4 feet deep.
This is still the most concerning weak layer and qualifies as a
deep slab instability. Stability tests could not get this layer
to fail until we really hammered on the shovel. Right now
(1/20/2009) its not likely, but it is possible to trigger an
avalanche on this weak layer. If you do trigger the weak layer,
it could result in large avalanches with big consequences.
