Very hard, old windslab on top of well developed facets. Distinct
area at the top of the facet layer was weakest. I expect these
layers to become reactive given a big enough load on top. The
slab in this area is so strong and thick, it would take a very
significant force to release it.
Two distinct problems exist here: 1. The super hard surface will
may not allow good bonding of new snow. 2. The weak layer of
concern could be overpowered in some areas with a large enough
storm.
Pit dug on steeper open area among sparse Hemlocks near treeline.
No profile done 0-45cm.
