Red Flags
Red flags are simple visual clues that are a sign of potential avalanche danger. Please record any sign of red flags below.
Observer Comments

No obvious signs of instability. No cracking, whumphing, or avalanches.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.

Snowing S1

Snow surface

2" of new snow sitting on supportable and breakable crusts and weak faceted snow.
HS varies greatly, from bare ground to 6 feet deep, in some places there is this much variation over a distance of 50 feet.

Snowpack

While the avalanche hazard is currently low, we do not think it is impossible to trigger an avalanche. We think there are isolated locations where a person could trigger a persistent slab avalanche. Suspected locations include features which have previously been cross-loaded on southerly and easterly aspects where stiff slabs overly very weak snow and slab thickness is highly variable.

Instability tests have slowly been trending towards increased stability. This trend is good news, however the snowpack as a whole is very weak with poor structure. Moderate to heavy new snow or transported snow loading will tip the balance and likely result in avalanches.
