Route & General Observations

A very large avalanche came down naturally on the morning of 1-4-13.
Conservative size estimates – crown was over 2000 feet in width, over 10 feet
deep. Debris field covered several acres with snow 20-50 feet deep.
Nearby paths showed evidence of running as well, including above Portage Lake,
in Bear Valley, and in the Byron glacier valley.
