Drove out to the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center to inventory recent natural avalanche activity in the area.

Observer Comments

Rapid loading (wind/rain/snow) and numerous recent avalanches. Avalanches ranged from D1-D2 in size. Many were in obviously wind loaded terrain. In the larger channelized avalanche paths there was new debris over the older debris.

Weather

44 degrees shown on the dashboard driving along Portage Rd at 1300. Wind at the lake strong enough to make it difficult to open the truck door. Driving rain at the lake, light showers closer to Seward Hwy intersection.

No snow at sea level.
