Route & General Observations

First day of motorized use within the Placer an Skookum drainage’s. Our base in
the valley bottom is comprised of a dense 18″ of snow and ice layers with ~3″ of
light density storm snow on top.
We only made it about 600 feet above the valley floor but experienced a 6′
snowpack at that elevation. Generally fun riding in 6-8″ of storm snow on top
of a breakable melt freeze crust (~10cm thick) at this relatively low elevation.
Very light winds all day in this area. Snow showers set in as visibility
diminished around 1500.
