Observation: Chugach State Park

Mostly clear, and warm. Slight wind above 3000.

South - West aspects below 3000 the snow surface was softening. Possibly above 3000 as well but didn't confirm. Above 3000 on West aspect surface remained dry chalky old wind effect. Pockets of soft snow and possible deeper wind slab in the bowl.

Evidence of old wind slab about 2" thick in a few spots.

Pit @ around 3000 sw aspect. Pit depth 90cm, height of snow 190cm. There seemed to be 2 somewhat reactive layers.

CTV 67cm below surface, unclear on what layer. Couldn't feel an obvious weak layer and snow grains didn't appear alarming. Snow was mostly semi moist 1F aside from the upper few cm that was softening and an obvious ice crust 33cm below surface. The crust was around 1cm thick and seemed decently bonded to the snow.

Tried back cutting a ECT but could only go 40 cm deep. Didn't try shovel taps but block came out with moderate force with shovel pull on a uniform surface about 40cm below surface.
