Avalanche: Chugach State Park

Route & General Observations

Toured Peak 4 gully, observed variable windcrust on all aspects above 2700 ft. One natural windslab had previously released on a S-SW aspect at 3100 ft, the crown was 3-6 inches and it ran 300 ft.

Avalanche Details

While returning to the cars we observed a new skier triggered avalanche on the SW aspect of Peak 2. The failure propagated roughly 40 feet across the slope and ran 500 feet. The crown looked to be 4-10 inches. Don’t know if any skiers were caught.
