Observation: Turnagain
Location: pastoral
General route up pastoral and a lap down sunburst. 9am partly cloudy at lot. Stout crust up to Taylor pass. Breakable crust in pastoral basin that disappeared around 3,800′. Boot top consolidated snow to summit. Small sluffing on roll overs. Crust in Taylor creek was supportable but you could feel it was losing strength around 2pm, especially below 2,000′. Didn’t leave any canoe tracks.
Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
No obvious signs of instability during tour. Lots of a day or so old roller balls and possibly wet slab in the Johnson pass area but could have been glide release.
Weather
Partly cloudy until 10am then blue bird overhead. Clouds confined to north side of pass till about 12 and started coming south. Light breeze, no snow transport witnessed.
Snow surface
Crust in lower elevation, gave way to breakable crust then consolidated powder. Crust started warming around 1:30ish.
Snowpack
No pit data. Stomped on some steep slopes, cut uptrack and a quick hand pit didn't reveal much.
